for my Becca

Happy 30th Birthday to my best friend of 22 years, Rebecca Marie.
Bec, we are worlds apart right now, and it feels like it too. I really miss you friend.
Why can't I find a lot of pics of us?!?! Maybe it's because most of our history was before digital cameras, or we always have a baby in our arms and never bother to take a picture of us (not our kids!), or maybe it's because we're too busy stuffing our faces in our sweats for it to register "We should take a cute picture".
If you were here in the U.S., I would take you to Taco Bueno, make you chocolate cake with chocolate icing, brownies, and would serve all of that with a side of cookie dough.
If you were here, I would hug you and tell you...
I love you, you're my sister.
I'm so proud of you for spending 2 years in a third world country, raising your boys, and taking care of your husband so well.
How beautifully priceless you are in every way.
I will never let us forget the dances we made up, the Indian Princess games we played outside, the snapping turtle we bombed with sand, the pounds of cookie dough and macaroni & cheese we've consumed, and most of all growing up together and learning what it means to love, forgive, and cherish friendship.
The Lord has blessed me with your friendship and I am forever grateful and forever changed.
from Proverbs 31
"She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.
She is clothed with strength and dignity,
She can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watched over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed and her husband also praises her.
Here's the part that's especially for you...
Many women do noble things, but you, Becca, surpass them all."

Bec, I love you so much and I hope you have a wonderful birthday with your boys.
Love you, love you, love you!

When's the last time you danced?

So I thought to myself this morning, when is the last time I danced because of what the Lord has done?
Did I dance and sing because I could afford groceries?
Did I scream joyously because it rained?
Did I fall to my knees because the Lord healed my child's cold?
Although I am grateful for what the Lord has done, I have never celebrated the way the women in Africa do.
I've been in villages where people rely on the Lord for everything...everything.
Yet they have more faith and less fear than most Americans.
These women have faith that moves mountains, unshakable, deep rooted faith.
A lovely friend sent me this video of a group of women in Malawi, Africa who have received a written copy of the Bible for the first time. Enjoy. Click on "this" below.

Donuts

I love donuts...in fact, I've never met a donut I didn't like. Even those yucky sour cream ones, I'll eat those too!
Donuts have a special place in my heart from childhood because my dad would get up really early on Saturday mornings, go see his patients at the hospital, and swing by the donut shop. Needless to say, I have had my share of donuts since about the age of 2!
So we made a quick trip to Target for some groceries and we HAD to stop by the bakery for what else...donuts!
From the time we got the donuts and went through the empty checkout line, the donuts had vanished!
Those are my girls!!!
Emma kept trying to ask Sophie "How's your donut?" and Sophie wouldn't look at her she was so focused!
Here's to many more trips to the bakery!!!
love you Boo and Bear!

Farewell Friends!!!

Our dear friends Brandon and Julianna Jones have selled most of their possessions and have moved to South Africa to pursue the Lord's calling on their lives!
We had them over for dinner and we're so blessed to have them in our lives, at our table one last time. We know they'll be back some day, but it will certainly be awhile and we will immensely miss our dear friends. They are truly following in Jesus' footsteps to seek and save the lost.
"Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven."
Mark 10:21
We love you guys so much and couldn't be more honored to be your friends. We are praying for you guys and can't wait to hear how the Lord moves in your lives!!! love you!!!
(chicken carbonara...I used Giada's recipe and added a little cinnamon to the pancetta...yum!)
