Summer Basics

I think the further you go back in time, the simpler childhood summer days were.
Riding bikes. Swimming. Playing outside until dark. Countless popsicles. The hose, slip-n-slide.
The summer basics.
I know they will outgrow some of these things and one day, their summer nights will be spent with friends.
No little feet running in the front yard. No little giggles as they play with sweet neighbors.  No sticky faces and fingers flavored in grape and cherry.
In the years to come, summer days will be different.

This summer has been extra special to us because we have shifted the focus a time or two. We've squeezed in appointments and accommodated new schedules. And we have celebrated.
with her Toni
This week's celebration, Bunny has reached her milestones.
Girl knows it too.
We met with our pediatrician to hear the news that this month, she has no delays. She's doing everything a baby should be doing. Our doctor raved "she's doing remarkably well considering what she's been through." A month ago today, I had to call Chris and tell him she could be delayed neurologically and physically. Today we are relishing in the news that she is showing no signs of delay. We expect this to continue.
And yes, I flip out like a crazy person when she claps.  She thinks I'm a nut.  I can deal.
A regular basic treasure, but certainly fun in the summer, date night with daddy. Tonight, she wanted to look like a princess. Yes, little one, he loves you so much.
The summer basics will change in time.  But not just yet.
Our first ever family vacation is near. We have planned, prepared, and will soon drink in every moment in the mountains. Rising early for campfire breakfasts, adventures during the day, and evenings at rodeos and hoedowns.
We are ready.
Until then, a few more basic games of Hide and Seek...Boo thinks if she covers her eyes then you can't see her.
Summer is almost half way over but there are still adventures to be had and summer nights awaiting memories for babies to soak in.
And as little brown shouldered lovies play, we will choose to press in and trust Him on days when bumps appear and need to be watched to see if they are tumors. Speaking life over her and knowing He holds her tightly.
Summer days, bringing us His joy and growth in more ways than one.  Just how we like it.
