A Little Surprise

We are loving us some summer.
Enjoying our ebb and flow of rest and play.  Out the door early, dressed and ready.  In mama's bed cuddling with cartoons, trickling out for a mid morning breakfast.
There's nothing like the pace of summer.

One morning, we met up with some other mamas and babies for fun on the farm, including a ride in the ranger.  Emma and Sophie hopped right in and off they went.

Summer has begun.

We've traded heavy casseroles of pastas and beef for throwing chicken and veggies on the grill, calling all who are hungry to the table, polished off with ice cream or popsicles.
One favorite and super easy recipe, semi-homemade pizza, our Chicken and Herb Pizza.
 Chicken and Herb Pizza
1 frozen cheese pizza
2 garlic cloves, minced
handful of herbs (whatever you fancy...we used oregano, basil, and parsley)
1 cooked chicken breast, diced (we use Rotisserie chicken from Target)
- preheat oven
- ask little hands to sprinkle all ingredients
- bake according to box directions
Enjoy.
And try not to eat the whole thing by yourself.
Summer has gotten off to a good start, even bringing a few treats already.

The highlight so far, a little surprise for the girls.  By no means a need but certainly a want, we've been pricing and hunting for a swing set for the girls.  Some friends were looking for someone to buy theirs.  So the hubs made a few trips to Lowe's for supplies, called a few friends, bought a box of donuts and this weekend, we had ourselves Christmas in June.

While the guys did their manly work, I kept the girls upstairs distracted.  They knew a surprise was coming and the suggested guesses were quite hilarious.

Since Bunny isn't quite into surprises just yet, she got a sneak peek and first dibs on the slide.
And Josh was still here helping and was happily distracted to help her down the slide over and over and over.
We slipped bandanas over their little faces and lead them out.

It's rare in this house for little girls to be speechless.  Today was a first.  Not a sound, just stillness and smiles, little minds turning.
Is this ours?
Yep.

Delight.
There's something about this day I will never forget.
It's like this was the day I never knew I had dreamed about my whole life.
The season we struggled to get pregnant with Emma Rose, somewhere deep in my heart this seed of today was planted.
Years ago He deposited in my heart the dream of children.  I have come to know the immense blessing in these precious gifts along with the challenges and messes to be cleaned up in their hearts.
There is nothing perfect about this thing called motherhood, only the grace from a loving Father bought with the price of His own Son that bestows upon every mother the mercy she needs to make it through each day.
His sacrifice makes it worth it.  His sacrifice brings all of the restoration, strength, and joy so perfectly combined yielding the beautiful recipe of raising babies and lavishing them in His love and affection.
A little surprise for my girls and His perfect avenue to flood my heart with emotion of gratitude and reflection.  Spending the entire day outside because she just didn't want to come inside.

And we knew.
We knew this day was a stake in the ground for this family, a gift yielding simple moments together to the soundtrack of laughter and smells of peanut butter and sunscreen.

Time was lost and our hearts were fully captured in this moment, watching them relish in their play and feeling this little life-to-be in my belly squirm because she somehow knows it will all be hers very soon.

A little surprise and such a storehouse of gratitude and joy.  Simplicity and ease.
And it's only the beginning.
It's more than just a swing set because it's bringing this family sweetness we weren't expecting and we're happy to receive.

All from a little surprise.
